| Waterfalls
of the Northern Territory include falls of the Litchfield
National Park, Kakadu National Park and Edith Falls north of Katherine, i have also included the only fall i have been in South Australia. I have shot the pictures in October 2001 and May 1997 (Kakadu National Park). Click on pictures to see the falls in a bigger size. |
| Litchfield
National Park is located south of Darwin, the
road to the major attractions is paved. Easy to reach waterfalls are Florence Falls, Tolmer Falls and Wangi Falls, swimming is possible at Florence and Wangi Falls, prepare also for many tourists and avoid weekends or holidays. |
| Edith
Falls is part of the Katherine Gorge National
Park and located north of Katherine. All the way is paved to the area. At the big parking area starts the hike to the upper and middle falls, the lower fall can be seen from the swimming area. This is a great place to swim and hike. |
| Kakadu
National Park is located south-east of Darwin.
The falls in the park have there best waterflow in the rainy period from November to April, by this time most of the falls are only accesible by air. Jim Jim Falls for example gets mostly dry from July/August. I have been to Gunlom Falls, that fall can be reached on a dirt road near Mary River roadhouse, the area is also known for Crocodile Dundee movies. By air i have seen Jim Jim Falls and Twin Falls, but that was very disappointed as the plane was very far away from the falls, unfortunately at Jim Jim Falls i was on the "wrong side of the plane". I have included a scan of Jim Jim Falls from "Still the Territory" by Derek Rofe and Frank Woerle. Hindmarsh Falls on the far right above is the only fall i have been in South Australia. The fall can be found south-east of Adelaide in the Fleurieu Peninsula on the road between Victor Harbour and Myponga. About halfway leads a dirt road to the parking area, with a few more minutes to hike. |
