The K4M-conversion:

Link to my F3R-conversion of my Super5, the SportUtilityVehicle......:o))

The reason, why I didn´t install a 1,8l 16V (F7P) is, that it´s impossible to get such an engine homologized by the TÜV, because the exhaust quality must be better or the same, the original engine had. My Clio was equipped with the 1,2l econ engine (D7F) which meets the Euro3-norm.

The old 1,8l 16V in the best case only has E2. Because of this, I needed an engine with more power, but also with Euro3 or better Euro4-norm. Last year I heard of a crashed Laguna Grandtour with the 1,6l 16V-Motor (Engine-type K4M with a stock power of 79kW (107hp) at 5750 rpm and a torque auf 148Nm at 3750 rpm) that meets already Euro4-norm. The engine didn´t run 20.000km at all. The question was now, would it fit into my car??? Now I can say it did!

Once again the base car: 1996 Clio 1,2 Campus phase3, 40kW/55hp, with ABS Now the biggest modifications (the rest wasn´t modified, look for it on my home page): Engine without air-conditioning compressor, power-steering pump and the tightening roller. Now wedge-rib-belt from a R5 1,5D. Left upper engine bracket from a Mégane 1,6 16V, with an aluminium adapter 20mm lifted, Gr.-N. torque-support from the old Cup Clio 16V, additional gearbox-mounting from R19 16V. (Foto shows the engine bay in the year 2001)

Following list of modifications (rest untouched, see HP):

Pre-catalyst replaced by a modified 4-2-1 Supersrpint-header , which was initially designed for a Clio 1.8 16V, main-catalyst replaced by a 200 cell metal one. 60mm Vökl exhaust system, modified rear silencer of a EspaceII 2,2DCi. Spark plugs DENSO Iridium type IK22, Wiechers strut brace. Reworked intake trakt, in detail Air intake from the left fog light opening (bumper of ClioB), Airbox Espace V6 with K&N replacement filter, hose to throttle of K&N 57i-Kit (slightly modified) and Upper intake manifold from einem F4R-780, modified ti fit the smaller cylinder spacing of the K4M-engine, distance flange between cylinder head and the lower section of the intake manifold .

Bigger throttle body from F4R-780 (101kW) with 65 instead of 55mm diameter:

3,8bar instead of OEM 3,0bar fuel pressure regulator (BOSCH 0 280 160 616), wheels Steffan EVO8 dull black and flat lids in 8x14 ET10, tyres Toyo T1-R in 195/55R14 82V

And camshafts from Catcams with remapping.

As result of all this modifications the engine brings (measured 26.05.2010) 104kW (141,5hp) at 5670 rpm and a maximum torque of 182,6Nm at 4690 rpm.

More detailed diagrams you can find here and here . It speeds good as you can see, Link ...:)

Gear-box from a Clio1 1,4 RTI. See HEREfor gear ratios. Radiator also from a Clio1 1,4, with the original Laguna-fan. Front brakes: Vented Sandtler discs type "GT", 259x21mm, , EBC Yellow Stuff pads, calipers R18 Turbo (54mm), brackets Clio A 16V, main brake cylinder 23,8mm LagunaI with ABS.

Finally I have to say thanks to Stefan and Josef. Without their help, the whole project wouldn´t have found that good end . THANX!!

Again "before/after"

And certainly Markus for his TÜV connection...
